Trever had a job in New York, so I joined him. We had such a great time. The weather was perfect, we got to hang out with old friends, there were Christmas decorations EVERYWHERE , we ate tons of fantastic food, our hotel was beautiful...I could go on. It was a really nice getaway.

On one of our long walks it started pouring rain. We bought some cheap umbrellas which broke within 5 minutes of purchase. Trevers literally turned inside out and I could not stop laughing at him. ...hahaha he didn't think it was that funny

One of the days Trever was working I walked for probably 5 hours straight. Everything was so beautiful so I just kept walking.

I went with my friends Lindsay (who just moved to NY) to the 9/11 memorial. It was breathtaking. The mere size of it, combined with the loud noise of the rushing water causes you to just stare in silence. They did a really good job creating it.

The best pancakes EVER. Seriously though, the food network says so.

(the duffy involved a broken throttle and a near collision with an antique boat in the bay. Everyone else was actively participating in trying to avoid us hitting the boat, as we were inches away...I of course froze and couldn't stop inappropriately laughing)

I would buy the Old Movie Theatre in Old Towne Orange. We walk by the building at least 10 times a week because it's right by our house. It's one of my favorite buildings in the circle and I think it would be so fun to make it back into a Theatre. A church meets there right now...PTL

We would sell the usual stuff, popcorn, candy, coke etc.

THEN...we would serve cheese plates, wine, beer, and other yummies

PLUS, we would sell desserts,cupcakes, cookies, pastries and coffee

We'll show the old pictures, partly because it costs infinity dollars to show the new ones, and partly because the old ones are fantastic.

We would also show some of these classics :)

SEE isn't that a good idea? Anyone want to give me a million dollars?

Pool Days

Some of my favorite memories from summers are long days in the pool, and the best is when it's warm enough to go swimming at night.

We had a birthday celebration for me and Hayley at my mom's house last week, and we had the best late night swim. Taylor, Summer and I did some synchronized diving...sort of. I think you'll be really impressed with our talent ;)

The title has a question mark because if I didn't know better I would have thought it was a wedding reception. Natalie Davis graduated with her masters and they threw a really rad party at the Orange County Mining company. It was a masquerade including poker tables, mask cookies, open bar, appetizers, a photo booth, a dj...I could go on. Trev had to be somewhere for most of the night so Bri was my date.

So when we were little my sisters and I (minus Summer) used to get out of the ocean and roll around in the hot sand to get warm. It was so gross and we would end up with sand EVERYWHERE, but it was the best feeling ever to get warm in the sand!!!

The other day we went to the beach with friends and they kept referring to getting churroed. I finally had to ask for a description of what this is and they explained what we did as kids. haha I laughed my head off. Later on I took video our friends churroing. bahahaha It's way funnier in person haha I'm laughing right now.

Long Beach Staycation

We stayed at the AVIA hotel in Long Beach for our anniversary. It's a really fun hotel, right by downtown with lots of fun restaurants and fun places close by. It has a 360 degree rooftop pool and bar which was gorgeous, and we had perfect weather which made for a wicked fun getaway. We were just saying how we could do staycations for years and never get to experience all the fun places in Southern California.

Since trev hates when we ask other people to take pictures of us I just takes random pictures of him all of the time. hehe jokes on him...I think.

The Cloud wedding was the first one that us girls did the flowers without Summer's help. All the way from buying them at the flower mart to the bouquets. woohoo

On a side note, my kids will NEVER eat these "turkey added with canola oil packed it water"...GROSSSSSSS

Speaking of food. Bri and I went to the Bruery the other night and spent 4 hours eating cheese and tasting wine. It was a fun night

Graduation Gift

For my Bachelors graduation Trever's mom gave me some gems that have been passed down in the family. I loved them but I didn't know if I would ever be able to use them. Trever's gift to me for my masters graduation was setting one of the stones. So I went to this awesome antique jeweler in Orange and he set the stone for me. He showed me a few models of antique setting and made the ring from scratch so it would fit the stone. It's one of my favorite gifts from him :)

Paris

After my sophomore year of college I backpacked (I use that word lightly. We had backpacks but other than that we didn’t see a tent or go for a hike or anything) anyways, we backpacked through Europe with my sister and two of our friends. Towards the end of our trip we ran out of money and we would buy loaves of bread and nutella or peanut butter and eat that for all three meals for several days (gross). Needless to say I was super skinny when I got back, and I would get Charlie-horses all the time because I wasn’t getting any nutrition (drama I know).

Paris however, was the second city we went to, so we were living it up (by that I mean ordering food from restaurants and splitting) so we got to experience some of their amazing food. I really loved Paris, the music, the people (minus the rude waiters) the buildings, the food, the coffee, the river…everything. I have been working on convincing Trever, that we need to do Europe trip before we have kids, but he hates traveling. I KNOW, HOW CAN YOU HATE TRAVELING, I’ll never understand it.

Recently, a friend of mine suggested that I start reading designmom.com. The author moved to France for a year and talks about it on her blog. All her stories about the French countryside are fantastic, and the house she is renting is AMAZING (it makes me sick with jealousy, like sinful jealousy). I would absolutely LOVE to go Europe for a year, but it seems I don't live in a Romantic Comedy and I can't just leave my life behind for a year (plus the cats would be totally pissed to be carted with the luggage, since they think they're royalty). So...I guess I will live vicariously through her.

Anyways her sister has a blog, because her and her family went to Paris for a year and she is blogging about it as well. Today she posted that she is doing a giveaway, for a trip for two to Paris. And one of the ways to enter is through blogging about it...so I am. I realize my chances are about as good as winning the lottery but it's worth a shot

I graduated with my master's this weekend. I can't believe how fast these last two years have gone by, and it was somewhat bitter-sweet to be finished. On one hand it's amazing that I never have to write another school paper, however I am very sad to not be in class with my professors any more. It has been such a blessing to have the opportunity to learn from them, and I will be forever grateful.

After the ceremony a group of friends and family went to my Mom and Bruce's house to hang out, and my mom made home-made ice-cream :) Here's a few pics from the night. But first here is my first graduation :)

The House that Broke our Hearts

When Trever and I first moved to Orange we thought we could buy right away…turns out we couldn’t afford anything in the Old Towne Area. We found our wonderful rental and gave up on owning any time in the near future.
Over a year ago I was on a walk with a friend and passed by a Pink and Green house that we thought was absolutely beautiful, and on the most perfect street. We called, only to find out, yet again, that we couldn’t afford it. However Trever and I would frequently walk by it, and compare all other house to the “pink and green” as we often called it.

Long story short, with minutes to spare we opened escrow on the house over a year later, and avoided what could have been quite the bidding war. Everything had to happen exactly the way it did for us to get the house at the price we did, and we felt so blessed that it all worked out. Trever and I were soooo happy and basically moving in, in our minds. We put our 30 day notice in at our place and I was counting down the days until the move.

Unfortunately, there is a legal issue that has to do with the title, and basically it is out of our hands. We were so close and now we’re so sad. Here’s a picture of the best house in Orange 

I realize there are MUCH worse things in life, and this post is a little Mela-dramatic, but that’s how I feel right now So to cheer ourselves up, we will go out for a fancy dinner, celebrate our lack of mortgage, and plan a trip to Italy (still talking Trever into this one.

Trever and I went to our friend Kathleen's house. She cooked for us and the Hughes, and her meal was so amazing I thought it was worth a blog post. She cooked the fish whole, and the salt on the outside sort of steams the fish. It was amazing!!! We all got our own fish and pulled the meat off the bones and everything. Apparently that's how they do it in Italy, so then we got on the topic of Italy and how amazing it is. I LOVE to travel and Trev isn't a big fan, but I think this conversation may have helped my case for a trip to Europe.

December has been wonderful. Many holiday parties, lots of time with family, and a lot of relaxation. I didn't take many pictures, but here's a few.

We spent a weekend in Arrowhead with some friends

Christmas has been madness here at the Hoehne's. Lots of running around, cooking, shopping, church, shooting.. the list goes on. We love Orange at Christmas! Its so fun to see the festivity. Here is an old photo that was posted online. I love it.

The cats were freaking out when we pulled up in the driveway with the tree on the car. I think they had just realized their favorite toy was an annual thing.

Sorry it's been so long. Here we are at my Dad's Thanksgiving in the mountains. We also did one at my mom's and the Hoehne's as well.

I left my old job. :( Here is me with most of the staff on my last day.

This is the ROCKHARBOR staff I work with now. I am working full time, which means I'm tired a lot :) I am the Pastoral Care Associate, so I oversee our lay counseling ministry, benevolence program, and I do some admin for the Pastoral team. Its a really amazing job, and what I studied for in my masters program.

Went to a benefit art show. This is Sarah Carter, she is an amazing painter.

I had a super long week of work...
This is the new CAB staff. I love them. Here they are all gussied up for 'clash and bowl'.

It was followed up by a wonderful labor day weekend. Orange was having an International Street fair...and it was nuts. So we had some friends over and celebrated it. It was also Brianne's birthday so we celebrated her as well. On saturday we went to the beach and had a very active day. We played spike ball, volleyball, wiffle ball and football. I'm still sore...lame

Running

Sometimes late at night I sneak onto Chapman's football field and run sprints on their track.

I run a little faster than normal because I'm nervous I might get caught...

It's invigorating.

I like to run so fast that I feel like I'm going to fall over, and I can hear my heart beating in my head, and my lungs are pulsing out of my chest, and my muscles are doing everything that they're supposed to do. It makes me feel alive.

Trever doesn't understand this. I tell him it's as if he had a ferrari and he only drove in on side streets going 40mph. Wouldn't you want to go out on an open road and make it do what it's designed to do...go fast.

Now I'm no ferrari of a human body, I can't even catch a football, but I think there's something about working hard and making your body do what it can do. Because really it's a blessing in itself that I can even run in the first place.

He still thinks I'm weird...

There's a Kathleen Edwards song where she talks about a friend with kids and how she would run late at night when they were in bed. The chorus is:

And into the night
Run so fast I swear my feet would fly
Run from my babies asleep in their beds
Run from my lover and my best friend

It's only fun for a few hours...but I sure enjoyed watching the brave ones go on the creepy rides that fold up into semi's, I can almost guarantee that I would throw up on 90% of them, as well as eating some fantastic corn and watching the boys eat turkey legs (gross).

An update on my Pescatarian Shenanigans

I fell off the wagon for one meal. But it's because Trever and I went to Rosine's for dinner (a small greek restaurant in anaheim hills) and they have the best chicken in the world, so I ordered it. But since then I haven't had any meat. It actually hasn't been hard at all and I feel really good.
I frequent many of the local farmers markets which is great not only because of the wonderful produce, but also because it's just plain fun. I go with my friend Sarah Carter who is even more granola than me. She even uses re-usable grocery bags, she's enviro and gronola, can you believe it? Don't worry though she gave me a bag last week.
Her and her husband Steve are also beginning the process of international adoption...sheesh. I'll never live up to her ;) Their story is actually really great and you can read about it here.
Anyways...here is what I got-

I am learning how to cook without meat, so I got this recipe from epicurious (the greatest recipe iphone app), they are mushroom tacos. If you like mushrooms you would like these. Even Trever did...or at least he said he did.
It's mushrooms, onions, and poblano peppers sauteed and put in corn tortillas. Then you melt a little cheese, and throw some cilantro, avocado, feta cheese, and a little Tapatio. yum

Side note: I saw this in the grocery store and it grossed me out, so I thought I would share...

p.s. Who thinks it's lame that Trever doesn't blog anymore? He's way funnier than me.

Santa Barbara/Anniversary

Trever had a shoot in Santa Barbara so we made it a little anniversary trip. It was beautiful, and really relaxing. The weather was great and we just spent a lot of time walking around Ventura, and Santa Barbara.

Beach Wednesdays

The Richards family set up fantastic tradition, to go to the beach for dinner every Wednesday night. Everyone brings their own dinner, blankets, kids toys, and sometimes a swimsuit. There's at least three families there every week, and sometimes up to seven or eight. We bring the trusty yellow blanket, some sushi from Traders, and a sweatshirt (if I'm prepared). This tradition has turned into one of my absolute favorites, it creates a lot of those nostalgic memories that you keep in your pocket to get through the winter.

I'm not a big meat eater anyways so I don't think this will be too hard for me, but we'll see. I do like fish a lot so I guess I'll be a pescatarian. Plus I found I farmers market in Orange but it's on Thursday mornings, but there is one in Yorba Linda on Saturdays. I'm going to try and shop there as often as I can

Family Vacation

Just a few weeks ago my family rented a house in Newport Beach. It was one of my favorite vacations that we have done. We decided it needs to be a tradition (except maybe not on the weekend of the fourth)
Taylor and Summer cooked us some AMAZING food.

We spent a lot of time just hanging out on the beach

We played some games...of which Trever opted out of ;)
side note- if you look behind us you can see the "little" party the neighbors were throwing. We saw a girl get caught for drinking under age. Sad day for her...entertaining for us.

We brought our bikes so we rode them every day. Most of the time to go get ice cream. Now as many of you know I am not a very well balanced or coordinated person, so bike riding in place like balboa where there are people everywhere, was extremely stressful. However, you will be happy to know that I went the entire time without falling over or hitting anyone.

We ended the fourth by watching the fireworks on the beach. We got to see a drunk girl attempt a hand stand, and skid her face across the sand, yet again sad day for her...pure entertainment for us.

Girls Weekend

This weekend the girls came and spent the night. It began with a day at the beach.

We ended the night with three hours of Gossip Girl (don't judge). So we woke up at noon, and got to breakfast by two. Haha it was a wonderful and lazy Saturday.

New York

Trever and I just got back from New York. We had so much fun. We stayed with the Norwoods, who live in the West Village. They were gems for letting us sleep on their couch. The last few days Jeff and Jessica came as well, so we all got to hang out. Every meal that I ate was AMAZING. I would totally get fat if I lived there, but we walked and sweat so much, that maybe I wouldn't.
We spent most of the time in the city which was beautiful of course.

Central Park was amazing of course!! I could just walk around aimlessly for hours. Its funny how relaxing it is right in the middle of such a big city.

We took a day trip out to WestHampton. The cab driver dropped us off at some restaurant in the middle of nowhere. But it was amazing food, and then we got to walk back to town. It was the best three mile walk ever. Half of it was on the beach and the other half was next to all the AMAZING houses. Every single one of them was beautiful. We got dinner, and then randomly decided to go to a concert that was in their town Performing Arts Center. It was a really fun day.

This is Carrie Bradshaw's apartment on Sex in the City. The Norwoods live two streets down...must be nice ;)

Trever was gone at the beginning of the week because of Staff retreat. So Natalie and Bri came and stayed with me. When there isn't a boy in the house it become very complicated to kill a spider. Natalie is holding a butter knife.

The next day we spent at the beach.

Yesterday Trever and I got to hang out with two of our couple friends, the Carters and the Hughes. We started by watching the world cup game, then beach, then ended with a nice BBQ at the Clements. FUN DAY

Last week My mom's cousin Mary and her daughter Lindsey came out from Georgia to California for the week. We had such a wonderful time enjoying some pool time, lunch in san Clemente, and a really amazing and relaxing day at Glenn Ivy. The last time they came to California my mom was pregnant with me. So this was a long time coming and we were so grateful to have time together.

We had a few people over for the world cup game. 3 of them were English, so the big flag went up. We outnumbered them, but they out-yelled us. Mostly because the Americans knew little about, soccer. We were having a side conversation as to what "off-sides" means. It was fun though.

Yesterday Trever's mom gave us the china they are passing down to us. It's so beautiful, if I had to pick a pattern out this would be it. With it came a note that read:

These were given to Terry's dad and mom from your Great Grandmother Hoehne (Ella) for a wedding gift. We've enjoyed them for years and hope they serve you well too.

Looong Weekend

Trever and I had a pretty busy weekend. It started with breakfast with our lovely friends Jonny and Amy Hughes and their family who is here from the UK for the week. Then we had a worship conference at our church called Worship Central, so we spent a LOT of time at church. Heather and I always do hospitality for the green room, which isn't much :) but we have fun. It ended with this dinner at Claim Jumper, and this is the only photo I took the whole weekend. I think this picture is funny because both Heather and Trever are taking iPhone pictures.

Today Summer planned and decorated a wonderful afternoon picnic for my mom. It was really fun, and of course decorated perfectly.

Last night we went to BJ's (very festive I know) with the Clements. We were asking Emily if she knew everyones names and she knew Trever's, Zach's and of course mom and dad. She was standing on the front lawn and yelled to me "Ireeka". haha We have no idea where that came from. We kept asking her throughout the night what my name was and it continued to remain Ireeka. We didn't correct her, so I will be Ireeka for a while I guess.

Hiking

Yes the day after I ran a half marathon I went hiking. When I woke up, I was debating going, but Trever said I was a pansy and "I only have this body once"...whatever that means...
I have started volunteering with Soul Care at my church to help with counseling. I'm really excited because it helps me to put my degree into action. For the team meeting this week we did a hike in Foothill Ranch, and it was really, really beautiful. I realize there are no photos of me, but quite a few of them are new friends to me, so I have to ease them into my obsessive photo taking. Trever gets really awkward that I take pictures everywhere we go :) So maybe next time I'll make everyone stop and pose for a group photo.

Orange County Half Marathon

Hayley and I ran the half marathon today. It was really fun and a beautiful course. I would love to do another one, however I am very sore and very tired right now. Hopefully tomorrow I will be refreshed.
I woke up at 4:30 which was really unfortunate, but when I turned the kitchen light on Trever had left flowers for me. :)

Chapman U Undie Run

So I was working on my paper when BD came over and told about this tradition that Chapman University does when their finals week is over. It all starts when they strip down into their underwear, so they can give their clothes to Africa :) and they start at the corner of campus and run to the fountain in the Orange Circle and back. We didn't realize what a big deal it was until at about 11;40 I could hear everyone yelling from campus. At midnight they run down to the fountain, so we decided to go and watch. It was hilarious. The police even close off the street. haha

This is from our house, you can hear them chanting Africa from the lawn, as clothes are flying everywhere.

Well anyways, Trever used to blog his random iphone pictures. Now I have one :) so I will too

My Christmas tree theme is the ever so common hand-made look. I have begun looking on those classic websites that are always sure to bring a few good ideas for this oh so wonderful and rapidly approaching holiday season. Pottery barn had some lovely ornaments that were decent priced and could be a good addition to my tree. Crate & Barrel was the same as well as several other housing decor stapels. I was feeling good about my tree and the things I have for it, feeling like I was right with it, or dare I say, a little ahead of the trend.

Then I decided to pay a visit to anthropologie...BAD IDEA. All that came was rapid discontement for my future tree and it's ornaments as well as a constant reminder that I have mediocre taste. I felt as if I NEEDED ALL of the ornaments to make my tree worth looking at, and they are all a tad more expensive than I (or Trever) can justify paying. So I'm left with a dull future of a "not quite there" Christmas tree, but at least it's a christmas tree :)
